The Conference in Delhi last September was deemed a success. The three sessions, chaired by Sir Bernard Rix, Charles Béar QC and Hon. Dr Justice Chandrachud, a judge of the Supreme Court of India, were attended by 24 from the UK and over 50 from India. A good range of Indian delegates attended, nearly all senior lawyers. The feedback gathered indicated that the three sessions were high level, enjoyable and raised some interesting points. The delegates felt the event had met their expectations.
The event was within budget. The India Committee had collaborated well and put in a considerable amount of work and the support from other UK members who attended, including the present and a former Combar chairman, was much appreciated. Alison Tighe was also thanked for all her work organising this event.
The delegates, together with other leading Indian dispute resolution practitioners who have shown support, will be invited to join Combar as honorary overseas members. A number of Indian colleagues have indicated that they will find this an attractive prospect.
A similar event will take place next year in India.
