17th July 2024 – Junior COMBAR Summer Social

Junior COMBAR will be holding a summer social from 6pm on 17th July at Baranis, Chancery Lane. Pizza, charcuterie and snacks will be available, along with a range of drinks. We will also have use of the pétanque courts.

10th July 2024 – Wellbeing seminar: Parenting in Practice

A session to discuss (under the Chatham House rule) the practicalities of juggling parenthood and practice.

14th May 2024-A Practical Introduction to Arbitration Applications, Challenges and Appeals before the Commercial Court

On 14 May 2024, Junior COMBAR is holding the first in a series of introductory talks concerning specialist areas of commercial law. The lectures are aimed at those in their first five years as a practitioner, all members of Junior COMBAR are welcome to attend.

Iain Quirk KC will lead an introduction to arbitration-related applications, challenges and appeals before the Commercial Court, including practical advice concerning such matters.

The event will be hosted at Essex Court Chambers in a hybrid format from 17:30 to 18:30 on 14 May 2024. Registration for in person attendance has now closed.

20th May 2024 -DATE CHANGE – “International law for commercial practitioners: hot topics and trends”

Alison Macdonald KC and Naomi Hart will give a talk followed by questions. Please note this talk has been moved from the 21st to the 20th May 2024.

8th March 2024 – COMBAR International Women’s Day Breakfast – Now fully booked

On 8 March 2024, COMBAR is holding a breakfast for female advocates to mark International Women’s Day. This will provide an opportunity to meet other barristers in an informal setting, network and share experiences. Juniors are strongly encouraged to attend.

The breakfast will be hosted by Gatehouse Chambers from 08:30. A range of continental breakfast options will be available.

21st February 2024 – Panel Talk on the Supreme Court’s decision in PACCR

This will be a panel talk on the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision in PACCAR and related issues concerning costs and funding of commercial litigation. We are looking forward to hearing from leading practitioners from the Bar, law firms and a litigation funder.
