Mr Justice Calver will give a talk followed by questions.

The talk will take place in rooms at the Ashworth Centre, Lincoln’s Inn from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.  It is open to Combar Members only. Pupils are welcome.

15th March – Junior COMBAR Celebrates International Woman’s Day

Junior COMBAR invites you to a hybrid panel discussion, hosted at Gatehouse Chambers.  It will be followed by drinks and networking to mark International Women’s Day.  Our speakers will cover career development, caring responsibilities and career breaks, health and wellbeing. 16th January – “Wellbeing at the Commercial Bar”

An open discussion involving the judiciary, the bar and clerks on the range of wellbeing issues affecting the modern commercial bar and possible responses. The panel will consist of:

Oliver Caplin (barrister, Twenty Essex; advisory board member, Wellness for Law)

The event is intended to be the beginning of a conversation about wellbeing over a number of COMBAR events. Discussion with the audience will be welcomed by the panel.

The seminar will take place in rooms 6-8 at the Ashworth Centre at Lincoln’s Inn at 5:45pm and will be hybrid, but not recorded. Pupils welcome.

Combar Inaugural Gulf Meeting – February 2023 – Dubai

The COMBAR Gulf Committee is pleased to announce that the COMBAR Gulf Meeting will take place in Dubai, on Thursday 23 February 2023.  The conference itself will be hosted at The Capital Club in the DIFC.

The meeting will involve an afternoon of seminars, with an emphasis on collegiate discussion between professionals across a number of jurisdictions, followed by a drinks reception in the evening.

Black Inclusion Group Report-Launch Event 5th December 2022

Combar, TecBar, and the ChBA will be holding an event to launch the report of the Black Inclusion Group, which will take place in the Large Pension Room at Gray’s Inn at 6pm on Monday 5 December 2022.

The Black Inclusion Group cross-SBA working group, was jointly set up by ChBA, Combar and TecBar to investigate and issue an advisory report with recommendations on enhancing outreach to and recruitment, retention, and progression of ethnic minority barristers, with a focus on Black (African and African Caribbean and mixed heritage) barristers in the Commercial, Chancery and Technology and Construction Bar.

At the event on 5th December, we propose to discuss the findings of the Black Inclusion Group as well as outlining some of the initiatives that the SBAs have been undertaking to tackle the equalities addressed in their Report.
